What Is Web Hosting?

What Is Web Hosting?

Introduction

Web hosting is a service that allows you to store and display your website on the web. It’s a way of storing, displaying, and distributing information through the internet. If you’re new to the world of website hosting, you may be wondering what exactly it does or why it’s important. Let me explain!

What is web hosting?

Web hosting is the service that provides you with a server to host your website. The term “web hosting” is often used interchangeably with the term “hosting”, but they are not identical. Hosting refers to all of the services and resources provided by a web host, while web hosting simply refers to one facet of those services: providing space on their servers where websites can be loaded and stored.

Web hosting companies provide customers with access to their servers so they can upload their own web pages or files for viewing over the internet. This allows users to have sites up and running quickly without having to build them themselves from scratch or pay someone else for technical work like installing software applications required for running certain types of websites (like WordPress).

Who needs web hosting?

Everyone! As a matter of fact, anyone who wants to have a website or blog needs web hosting. If you’ve got an idea for a new business and want to start your own website, you’ll need it. If you want to share pictures with friends or family on Instagram or Facebook, again: web hosting. The list goes on and on—there are many reasons why people might want their own websites these days.

What are the different types of web hosting?

  • Shared hosting: Shared hosting is the most popular type of web hosting, and it’s also the most affordable. With shared hosting, your website shares space on a server with other websites. This means that if one site on the server gets too much traffic or causes other problems, you may experience difficulty with your own site. However, it also means that you’ll save money by sharing resources like bandwidth and storage space with other sites on the same server.
  • Dedicated hosting: Dedicated web hosts provide their clients with their own physical server to use for their web domains only (a single client per machine). You’re responsible for maintaining it yourself or hiring someone else to do so because dedicated servers are not managed in any way by your host. This can be very good or very bad depending on how technical you are and how much time/money you want/can spend maintaining things yourself versus paying someone else to maintain them for you!
  • Cloud Hosting: Cloud hosting offers more flexibility than traditional shared plans because they allow users access via an app rather than just through FTP clients like cPanel & FileZilla which we’ll talk about next time! The downside? They usually cost more upfront compared to shared plans but offer lower monthly rates overall since they typically use less resources due to fewer people using them at once.

Why do you need a domain name?

The domain name is the address of your website, like www.yourwebsite.com. Like your home address, it’s a unique identifier for you or your business and an easy way for people to find you online. When someone types the domain name into their web browser, they are taken directly to that site, where they can read pages and interact with all of its features—like commenting on articles, posting photos and videos and shopping online.

As mentioned above, there are two parts that make up a domain name: the top-level domain (TLD) and subdomain (SLD).
