Introduction

If your site has been running slowly, you might want to check out GTmetrix. This free tool provides a comprehensive overview of your website’s performance and speed. It gives you suggestions for how to improve your site’s performance, including fixing common issues like minified CSS files and optimizing images so they don’t weigh down your pages.

Go to GTmetrix.

The first step is to go to the GTmetrix website. It’s a simple process, but there are a few things you should know before getting started:

  • Make sure you’re on your own device so that you can see what’s wrong with your site. This is important because it allows you to see how your site performs on different browsers and operating systems (Windows vs Android vs iOS).
  • Make sure you have an internet connection. Obviously, if there’s no connection, then GTmetrix won’t be able to give you any information about how fast or slow your site is loading.

Enter Your Website’s URL.

You will be prompted to enter your website’s URL. After you have entered it, click on the “Start a New Test” button.

You will also be given options for testing different browsers and devices. This is useful if you are curious about how your website performs on mobile versus desktop, or want to know if there are any differences between two browsers (such as Chrome and Firefox).

View Your Report.

If you’re using GTmetrix, the site will show you a table with your page speed score and a list of suggestions for boosting performance. You’ll also see how much time was spent loading each resource on the page.

The table below shows an example of what to expect when viewing your report:

Improve Your Site’s Performance and Page Speed.

There are a number of ways to improve your site’s performance and speed, but one of the easiest is also one of the most effective: using a CDN.

A CDN stands for “content delivery network,” and it’s basically just a network of servers distributed all over the world that can serve your web pages faster than if those same files were being served by a single server in your country or region. If you have some limited budget for improving your website performance with these kinds of optimizations, investing in a CDN should be near the top of your list.

The first step is choosing which CDN you want to use. Some popular options include Amazon CloudFront (which I use), MaxCDN (which has been recommended by several people), KeyCDN and EdgeCast Networks (both recommended by W3 Total Cache). Once you choose one, sign up for an account with them and download their WordPress plugin—this will make it much easier than installing each plugin separately!

Conclusion

GTmetrix is a great tool for anyone who wants to improve their website’s performance. It can be used by both beginners and advanced users, so no matter what your knowledge level it will provide valuable insights into how your site is performing.
